“We didn’t just set the Comp Plan aside once we voted on it,” said Setliff, who said the two committees set up to help implement it, the Legacy Committee, chaired by Chuck McGhee, and the Small Area Plan Committee, chaired by Gordon, were crucial.Setliff called the 2007 tax rate reduction from 86 to 81 cents an important step for the board, and ticked off other accomplishments, such as the Atlee Manor sewer contract, the Veterans Memorial dedication and the Mechanicsville Library groundbreaking, among others. “The rest of the year was taken up with something called an election,” quipped Setliff. Stanley, beginning his 25th year on the board, said 2008 would be the most important year of his current four-year term. Upcoming large scale re-zonings and formulating the new budget are the big challenges this year, said Stanley. “It’s always the toughest time of the year for us because there are so many requests, and you can’t honor every request and keep the tax rate as low as we have in the past few years,” he said. |
