Mark your calendars – Super Saturday 2008 will be held on Saturday, February 16th, 2008. Super Saturday, an annual state-wide event sponsored by the Virginia Association of Student Aid Administrators, provides free information on financial aid. In addition, students who plan on attending college in the fall of 2008 can receive free on-site assistance in completing your FAFSA. TCP-Richmond will be a site in 2008. FINANCIAL AID INFORMATION: FAFSA - Beginning January 1st, 2008, students who plan on attending an institution of higher education in fall 0f 2008 may visit www.fafsa.ed.gov to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. In order to complete a FAFSA, students must have a PIN (Visit to www.pin.ed.gov to request a Personal Identification Number. Be advised that this will take several days to receive), and parent/legal guardian’s tax information. John Hancock Jr., Scholarship Awards - This scholarship encourages talented students needing financial assistance to attend a two-year or four-year college or university accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, and located in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Scholarship candidates must intend to enroll in, a major in art, history, science, theater, performing arts, museum studies or creative writing. Other majors relating to the above will be considered. Hall Scholarship – Virginia Credit Union – This scholarship ($2500 each) is awarded to 25 individuals who are members of the Virginia Credit Union (not any credit union in Virginia). Applicants must have a VACU checking account in their own name and joined the credit union by September 29th, 2007. Students who will be rising college freshman, sophomores, juniors or seniors in an accredited university or college are eligible to apply. Students applying to community college are eligible as well. Must have at least a 3.0. Application Deadline: Monday, March 31st, 2008 at close of business. For more information, visit http://vacu.org/about/scholarships.asp . Richmond Chapter of Credit Unions – Two scholarships ($1500 each) are awarded to a high school student that will graduate in 2008 and will begin college by December 31st, 2008. Applicant or parent must be a member of a Richmond Credit Union. Applicant must have a cumulative GPA (9th – 11th grade) of 2.8. Application Deadline: Friday, March 28th, 2008. Virginia Horticultural Foundation Scholarships (current college students): $1500 scholarships available to students who are currently horticulture majors at an accredited university/college in Virginia. Must be a full-time, part-time or graduate level student, who has completed 9 credit hours in horticulture. Must have a GPA of 3.0. For more information visit: www.MAHSC.org. State Council of Higher Education for Virginia Financial Aid Programs/Information – For financial aid information specifically for Virginia students (high school & undergraduates), visit http://www.schev.edu/students/undergradFinancialAidPrograms.asp?from=students . Internship Opportunity – NASA’s Langley Aerospace Research Summers Scholars Program - NASA's Langley Aerospace Research Summer Scholars (LARSS) Program, hosted at NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, offers paid 10-week summer or 15-week fall and spring internship experiences for rising college juniors and above. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a 3.0/4.0 GPA, and be pursuing a major of interest to NASA including engineering, science, mathematics, or special project areas such as history, journalism, accounting, and photography. There are also opportunities for outstanding rising High School Seniors, College Freshmen, and Sophomores who have a 3.5 GPA and previous NASA program experience.
