Written by Hanover County Government Online
Global Youth Service DayHanover County will participate in the 20th annual Global Youth Service Day (GYSD) later this month. Hanover’s Department of Community Resources will facilitate Hanover’s inaugural countywide youth service event by mobilizing more than 750 volunteers, including 500 youth, in various service projects.

A kick-off event will be held this Saturday, April 12, from 1-3 p.m. at the Richmond Times-Dispatch Building in Mechanicsville. This youth-led event will give young people an opportunity to meet agency representatives hosting GYSD projects, conduct mini-projects, sample free food, listen to live local youth bands and celebrate the collective good work that young people can and do offer to address community needs.  In addition, students may register for projects and pick up a free GYSD t-shirt. (The shirts will be available on a first come, first serve basis once project registration is complete.)

The Global Youth Service Day dates this year are April 25-27. For more information call Kara Dunleavy at 804-365-4180 or visit www.HanoverVolunteers.org
