Hartke Wins Nomination PDF Print E-mail
Written by FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Harke for Congress
Anita Hartke and Howard DeanCulpepper County Democratic Chairwoman Anita Hartke tonight won the Democratic Party’s nomination to challenge Republican Eric Cantor for the right to represent the 7th District of Virginia in the United States Congress.

Hartke, 48, is the daughter of the late Sen. Vance Hartke, who represented Indiana for 18 years in the U.S. Senate.  “I learned from my father that dedication to serving others is a noble calling, and representative government is critical to ensuring the rights of each citizen,” she concluded.
Hartke  has worked for 20 years as a Realtor and is a licensed real estate broker living and working in Culpeper County. She lives with her mother Martha and son Wyatt, who attends public school in the county.  Her daughter Hanna is a student at Virginia Commonwealth University and her oldest son Ryan attends Virginia Tech.

Hartke says she wants to work to transform the U.S. economy and help working Americans recover from eight years of mismanagement and debt that is the result of Republican government.

“Too many working class families in the 7th district are facing a future without Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security. Too many of our brave and noble soldiers are suffering from neglect by the people who sent them to war under false pretenses.

Virginians need someone to hold our government accountable to the American people,” says Hartke

Hartke is one of the few candidates who truly understands the concerns of middle class Americans. “Families are struggling through the mortgage crisis, a deficient health care system and the heartbreak of war. We need to bring fiscal responsibility back to government, strengthen the dollar and create greater opportunities for Virginia families.

Working hand in hand with Tom Delay and George W. Bush, Eric Cantor, has become one of the architects of one of the worst economic performances since the Great Depression. Hartke has seen Cantor vote, time and again, for the benefit of special interests and the wealthiest among us, while leaving the most vulnerable, especially children, in economic jeopardy.

Hartke says she will run a robust campaign that represents the true interest of working class Americans and looks forward to debating the important issues of our time with Eric Cantor.
