National Adoption Day, celebrated every year on the Saturday before Thanksgiving, is a collective national effort to raise awareness of the 114,000 children waiting for adoption in America’s foster care system. For the past eight years, National Adoption Day has helped make the dreams of more than 17,000 children come true by working with courts, judges, attorneys, adoption professionals, child welfare agencies and advocates to find permanent, loving homes and finalize adoptions.
Last year, more than 300 celebrations were held in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.
The National Adoption Day Coalition provides technical assistance for local event coordinators and implements national promotional efforts. Coalition members are the Freddie Mac Foundation, the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Casey Family Services, the Children’s Action Network, the Alliance for Children’s Rights and the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute.
